MMU University Students March on to Plymouth from the FLUX North West Final!
A team of six students from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) held off competition from seven other teams to win £500 cash and book their place in the Grand Final.
Sam Reece from MMUgreen said "FLUX was honestly one of the best days I have taken part in whilst at university. A totally thrilling experience!!! The day was well organised throughout with a clear schedule and emphasis on the participants. It is an excellant way of evoking a greater level of confidence within yourself whilst teaching you how to apply your own knowledge."
"Dont get me wrong it was also one of the hardest days as well. The pressure you are put under from an early stage is challenging yet exillarating, you have to learn as you are going along. The element of competition gives the event a real thrill factor. It is hard to fault the dragons who are nothing but honest however also offer advice and encouragement all the time. The key for myself was to really immerse yourself in the situation you are thrown into with complete strangers, learn early to work as a team and respect everyone's opinions. Listen to what they have to say and learn from their experiences and advice. All in all a top day even better because we won!"
Liz Greenfield from the winning MMU team said: “This has been a fantastic day – and not just because we won! We’ve learnt so much about business, about our own set of commercial skills and about working together as a team – all of which I’m sure will stand us in good stead when we graduate. Now, we are just completely determined to go on and win the final!”
Looking back on the day, Jan Moore, Head of the Careers Service at MMU, said: “Every member of the team said how much fun they had had taking part in FLUX and how much they had learned - not simply the essentials of developing a business but also in having to work collaboratively with others to determine how best to achieve an agreed goal in the time given."
“The knowledge and skills they have developed as a result of taking part, coupled with the fact that they have represented MMU, will certainly make these students’ CVs very impressive to prospective employers”.
The winning team now progress to the Grand Final at Plymouth University on March 17th and 18th, where they will compete with the nine other regional winners for a cash prize of £3,000 and the prestigious 2008, National FLUX title. Click here for more information about the Grand Final.
