FAQ
General Q's
What's FLUX? and what's XING?! I'm confused...
FLUX is the name of the competition – we chose this because the competition bonds all the elements of your education together with all the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in the workplace – whatever you choose to do.
Xing is one of the training tools developed by Working Knowledge (www.twkg.net). ‘Xing’ is derived from ‘Cross(X)-ing’, illustrating how the growth growing of a business can be like a journey to reach your ultimate goal.
By happy coincidence Xing in Mandarin can mean to ‘travel’, ‘to go’ or ‘journey’ or with another intonation ‘thrive’, ‘prosper’ or ‘flourish’.
Where does the £500 prize money come in?
At the Regional Final there is £500 for the whole team; use this to celebrate your win and travel to the Grand Final.
At the Grand Final there is £500 for each member of the 6-person winning team.
Why do I have to register?
So we can let you know you have a place and to make sure you are eligible to compete.
Who can get involved?
Any student studying for a Higher Education qualification - under-grad, post-grad, part-time, full-time and all ages.
What's a Champion?
A Champion is the person at your uni that is coordinating FLUX for you. They help to choose the team that goes to the Regional Final and make sure you get there!
What's an Agent?
It is someone who wants to recruit other students to come along to the Regional Finals. An Agent might be you! They get the chance to win a new iPhone as well as some cash on the way. They also have their own unique Agent Code found on FLUX promo materials. If an Agent tells you about FLUX, or you see a code on a poster, sticker, etc. at your uni; enter it when you sign up and they get one more referral.
When do I need to apply by?
Now! But at least 2 weeks before your Regional Final!
What happens to my information after I submit it?
It is passed to your university Champion to read so they can select the teams. We will also use the contact info to tell you about what’s going on but we do not share it with anyone else - however nicely they ask.
If I don’t have a Champion does that mean we can’t have a team competing?
You can compete without a Champion, the FLUX team will be in touch to let you know the details when your sign up deadline is reached.
How will I know I have a place on the team?
2 weeks before your Regional event, team selection will commence and we'll let you know as soon as possible after that. You'll know if you've made a team the week before your Regional.
Who else is on the team?
It will be you and 5 other students from various courses at your university, but you'll all have things in common: A desire to represent your uni… An interest in investing in your future... And that you're all at the same uni... And that you are all more employable after FLUX... And you probably have the same T-shirt on or something...
Why can't I be in a team with my mates?
Get them to signup too, and they might well be! Or canvass your Champion to let them know you would make the best team. Suggest to your Champion they hold an Inter-university competition with all the applicants so you can prove you are the best!
Will I get to meet my team-mates before the event?
Yep, that can be arranged. Just speak with your Champion or contact the FLUX Team.
Event Q's
What’s this Grand Final event?
Each region will have a winning team that goes forward to the grand Final. This year's grand Final will be hosted by last year's national winners, University of Plymouth. It's on the 17th and 18th March 2008. Hope to see you there!
Where can I get food at this event?!
Food is kindly provided by Greggs, so you will get snacks, and lunch. Don't forget to let us know your dietary requirements if you have any!
When is my Regional Final?
Regional Finals run from January to March 2008. Check out Where and When for more info.
Why should I get involved?
A free Greggs lunch... but there are other reasons!
The experience and skills you will gain on the day will be invaluable to you, as will the people that you meet.
The experts there are looking to recruit and they will not be just the same old companies you might see at the Milk Round. The experts will include innovative, young small businesses in your region.
The competition is a great laugh, and you will meet some great new people from your university and others. Oh, and the free food.
Website Q's
I can't register! What's going on?
Don't panic! If you haven't received a confirmation email with a validation link, it might be because your email was wrong, or that your uni is filtering messages it thinks are spam. If possible, sign up with an account that has a "safe list" such as Hotmail, or Google, and add the "flux@twkg.net" address to your safe senders list. If this isn't possible, let us know on the email address below and we'll get you sorted out.
